Sooo Zion was the first word out of people’s mouths telling us places we needed to see, the second two words were consistently “and Bryce.”
Again… we now know why! The colors of this canyon and the incredible rock formations were spectacular to say the least.
Our first hike in Bryce Canyon National Park was the Fairyland Loop that circled a part of northern canyon called Fairyland. This hike was just over 7 miles with some gradual drops down into the canyon and hiking our way back up and out. The rock formation’s that we couldn’t get enough of are called “hoodoos” which made us love them that much more. Fairyland was magical to say the least, pun totally intended, and the pictures hardly do this place justice.
Our second adventure in Bryce was a plan B after we heard about another hike in Arizona called “The Wave” that is so popular they only give 10 people permits to hike it with the in-person lottery… we decided to try our luck. We drove to Kanab, UT where us and 53 other hiking groups entered the Wave lottery to potentially get to hike it the next day. The drawing was Bingo number style, we were number 26… 25 was one of the groups that got the permit. Oh well… bucket listing this one for sure!
We grabbed a local coffee and headed back northeast toward Bryce Canyon and drove to the southernmost point, Rainbow point, and took on a 8 miler called Riggs Spring Trail. This was not exactly the most beautiful views we’ve seen on our adventure spending most of this hike in the bottom of a wooded area only to have to hike up and out of the loop for a solid 2 miles to round out the 8… I was less than energized with that 2 mile incline at the end ha!

Thor’s Hammer
Our FINAL hike in Bryce Canyon was absolutely fantastic in all accounts! Fun terrain, beautiful views, you name it, it was there! We did a “Figure 8 combination loop” that was a combination of a few popular trails in the Canyon, Navajo Loop, Peek-a-Boo Loop, and the Queen’s Garden. This was just over a 6 mile figure 8 in which we started off walking down “Wall Street” and then saw the “Wall of Windows,” more Hoodoos than we could count, Queen Elizabeth herself, AND Thor’s Hammer…. The names of these rock formations alone are hilarious.
Our time in Utah has come to a close and we start heading east for some time in Colorado next… stay tuned to see what we have planned for Denver and Colorado Springs!
